Biography
Sergey Kravchuk
Sergey's creative path is very diverse. Sergey studied cello, later actively studied piano, graduated from university as a conductor, and studied composition at the Union of Composers in St. Petersburg. But forever his main musical love and passion was the classical guitar!
It was for the guitar that Sergey Kravchuk wrote the greatest number of works. His contribution to the guitar repertoire has yet to be appreciated by the whole world. Sergei's music is revolutionary in a certain sense. He wrote 24 preludes and fugues for solo guitar, 20 compositions, more than 15 sonatas in different keys, and a huge number of individual works. Feeling an acute shortage of serious polyphonic material in the guitar repertoire, Sergey pays great attention to polyphony. Among his fugues there are not only 2- or 3-voice fugues, but also 4-, 5- and even 6-voice fugues! The variety of options for working with the topic will impress any theorist.
However, Sergei's music is written very figuratively and beautifully, so even unprepared listeners who do not crawl through the deep wilds of musical theorizing easily perceive his works.
Sergey's music was performed by such guitarists as: Anatoly Izotov, Dmitry Illarionov, Gabriel Bianco, Vladimir Gapontsev, Alexey Khorev and others.
And the legendary Kazuhito Yamashita performed Sergei's Sonata No. 3 in 2018 Kravchuk at his concert in Italy! And in 2020, at a concert in Kazan, the Maestro included several miniatures of the composer in the program!
Sergey's music is mostly technically complex, and is designed for professional performers. However, in recent years, the composer turned to the genre of miniatures, and began to write beautiful pieces for beginners.
